Method & materials
Shell courses are erected and welded with the distortion controlled as the tank grows, since a shell that is out of round at the top cannot be corrected once the roof is on.
Bottom welds are vacuum box tested, and the completed tank is hydrostatically tested with a settlement survey taken at intervals around the circumference as it fills — the survey is the record that the foundation has taken the load evenly.
