Heat Tracing
Electrical and steam tracing for viscous and freeze-sensitive service.
At a glance
- Discipline
- thermal
- Executed to
- IEEE 515
Scope of work
- Electrical trace heating on process lines
- Steam tracing and condensate return
- Temperature control and monitoring
- Insulation over traced lines
- Continuity and insulation resistance testing
Method & materials
Circuit lengths are set by the heat loss calculation for the line, its insulation and the lowest ambient it has to hold against — not by what reaches the panel.
Insulation resistance is measured before and after insulation is applied, because damage during lagging is the common failure and is invisible afterwards.

Work is executed to these codes. This is not a claim of certification against them.
