Construction & operation
A deluge valve skid cabinet brings the deluge valve, its trim and its isolation valves together in one enclosure, pre-piped and tested before it leaves the works. On site it needs connecting to the water supply, the system pipework, the detection line and the fire alarm panel.
Butterfly valves isolate the deluge valve for maintenance, and a bypass keeps water available to the system while the valve is out of service. The pressure switch reports the valve tripping to the panel; gauges are visible from outside the cabinet so pressures can be read without opening it.
Maintenance
- Keep the cabinet dry and the gauges readable; check the door seals where it stands outdoors.
- Trip-test the deluge valve at the intervals the governing code sets, with the downstream isolation valve closed where the design allows.
- Check the bypass and isolation valves are left in their normal positions after every test.
