Construction & operation
A threaded concentric reducer joins two threaded pipes of different sizes on a common centre line — typically on branch lines and sub-mains.
Installation
- Check that the male threads are clean and undamaged, and match the fitting’s thread standard (NPT or BSP — the two do not seal together).
- Apply PTFE tape or a thread sealant suited to the service, to the male thread only.
- Tighten with the right size of wrench on the fitting, not on the adjoining pipe, and stop at the make-up the thread needs — over-tightening splits fittings.
