Construction & operation
A threaded 90° reducing elbow turns a threaded line through a right angle and reduces its size in the same fitting, saving a separate reducer.
Installation
- Check that the male threads are clean and undamaged, and match the fitting’s thread standard (NPT or BSP — the two do not seal together).
- Apply PTFE tape or a thread sealant suited to the service, to the male thread only.
- Tighten with the right size of wrench on the fitting, not on the adjoining pipe, and stop at the make-up the thread needs — over-tightening splits fittings.
