Construction & operation
A mechanical tee with a threaded outlet takes a branch off a pipe run without cutting the run apart. The housing clamps round the pipe over a hole cut in it; a locating collar on the outlet seats in the hole and a gasket seals round it.
Used for sprinkler drops, gauge and instrument take-offs, and small branches off a main.
Installation
- Cut the hole to the diameter the maker specifies, and remove all burrs and the cut coupon from the pipe.
- Seat the locating collar in the hole before tightening, so the outlet sits square on the pipe.
- Tighten the housing bolts evenly to the maker’s instructions.
